From Saab-i:
"Partners in design
As part of the General Motors group, Saab has had the opportunity to work with some of the worlds best motor manufacturers. Over the years Saab designers and engineers have worked together with their overseas colleagues, sharing ideas and innovations.
This has culminated in the appointment of Saabs design center in Pixbo, Sweden as the GM Advanced Design Center, responsible for generating new concepts for the entire GM group. Under the expert guidance of Saab Head of Design Michael Mauer, the Advanced Design Center is already working on some exciting projects for the future.
The centre will play no part in creating final designs for GM models. We develop the concepts here, says Mauer, but when that process is complete, the brand-specific projects become the responsibility of the brand design centres. The advanced design team is not responsible for creating the new design language for any brand, and the Saab team alongside creates only Saabs. In fact, I would say that 80 per cent of what we produce here will never be seen on public roads. Ten per cent might become concept cars unveiled to the public, and another 10 per cent might be developed to become production models, but I know that out of the unseen 80 per cent will come a lot of excellent ideas.
Its a great recognition for Saab, and reflects the hard work and ingenuity that has gone into crafting some of the most popular car models of the past 40 years. As for the next 40 years, who knows what Michael Mauer and his Advanced Design Center team will bring us, but one things for sure they will be cars that set the standards that others merely follow. Look out for more news on the Advanced Design Center in future editions of Saab-i."
