a) Dean C: Post me privately with your name and I'll check my own records.
b) SCNA Inc. is a non profit corporation, brought into being by Phil Lacefield Jr. during 2002, with its first ever officers and board of directors elected at the 2002 Saab Owners' Convention. Prior to that, SCNA was a "dba" for Nines Magazine, and its predecessor The Saab Club Newsletter. NINES is an independent magazine, published by NINES Publishing Company of Ohio (moi). I am not an officer of the Club, nor can I be because of my position as a "supplier" to the Club.
When you join SCNA through The Saab Network or by direct mail to NINES, you also receive a subscription to NINES Magazine and your name is sent to the Club Membership Chairperson, who then distributes Club Membership Cards and decals. You can purchase a subscription to NINES without joining the club. In that case, you do not receive SCNA decals, you do not receive a memership card, and you are not privy to the Club Benefts. You can also join the club separately from NINES, in which case you must send your payment directly to the Club.
Domestic NINES Subscribers receive two post cards prior to, and one more just after, their subscriptions expire. International subscribers receive their notices along with their magazines. This is true whether subscribers are SCNA members or not. I do not have the roster SCNA members who are not subscribers.
A number of people paid $15 to become "members" rather than pay the $20 "non-member fee" to attend the convention. If that is your situation and you did not receive a membership package, then email John Hochstetter, membership chairperson (jhox@wi.net).
The Club Discount is a real, live benefit. Dave Towell Saab in Akron, Ohio, my local dealer, sells parts to Club members at "cost plus", rather than "suggested list", and the savings range from 10 to 30%, in my own experience. Shaker Saab in Cleveland and Saab of Bedford also offer a Club discount. Saab Cars "encourages" its dealers to participate, to help promote the brand through owner enthusiasm and loyalty. That information is on "IRIS" the intranet communication network that the Company and the Dealers use to communicate. For example, when your dealer looks up the new car inventory at neighboring dealers, he does so on IRIS. All SCNA members should take it upon themselves to encourage their local dealers and independents to participate, and to contact their local clubs and/or the SCNA National Officers if they meet resistance. It realy is to the Dealers' best interest to encourage Club membership.
