There is no aesthetic or performance improvement between the SAAB WRX and the Suburu WRX that I was able to discern that would justify the decision to buy the SAAB version. GM has really just thrown in the towel on what makes a SAAB a SAAB and decided to just rebadge its trucks and joint venture partners as SAABs. Really, the same people who buy SAABs in New England and Colorado also buy Subies such that if SAAB is not going to be unique any longer, why bother buying SAABs over Subies. Subies are going upscale and at least they are still true to their heritage with AWD and boxer engines. GM is milking SAAB's limited brand equity for short term profits. Once the GM Envoy is rebranded as a SAAB, I don't think there will be any coherent brand identity left. Ford would never bastardized Jaguar in such a manner. It would be like taking a Ford Contour SVT and turning it into a Jag by sticking a leaping cat on the hood. DOes anyone think an Envoy is a SAAB??? Mercedes might as well start putting its star on Chryslers and Jeeps.
