I spent Christmas afternoon with my sister and her husband. He told me about an incident he witnessed involving a Saab while deer hunting in Northern Michigan around Thanksgiving.
He and his brother were driving when they spotted an oncoming Saab driven by a woman suddenly leave the highway. The car hit an embankment or sand-pile and instantly became airborne. The car did a 360 degree barrel roll and 180 degree rotation, landed rubber side down in the original lane facing the direction from which it had just traveled, bounced 2 to 3 feet into the air, then landed again.
He said traffic was quite heavy in their direction so it took them a minute or so to get back to the "accident scene" to check on the driver. By the time they arrived a wrecker had already ben called, possibly by On-Star. The women's husband had been driving behind his wife and had stopped also. The husband was more shook-up about what he had just witnessed than his wife was!
My brother-in-law and his brother are both professional mechanics, so they spent their time inspecting the car for damage until the wrecker arrived. The only visible damage was one blown tire from the impact! The wrecker driver replaced the blown tire then the woman and her husband continued on their way.
My brother-in-law's ending comment was "...that is one helluva strong, well built car...".
But then, we already knew that!
