BL is great stuff for one problem: heater core leaks. On a fresh coolant charge, if a full shot of BL stops the problem, you saved a ton of dough. If not, it's time to get intimate with the inner workings of the HVAC system. A bunch of people across lots of makes (including 9K) seem to swear by it for this purpose.
From everything else I've read and expereinced, it should not be considered to work against anything else, or as a preventative measure. Now yes, it can slow down headgakset leaks and other mystery coolant losses, but since you're not solving the actual problem, it gets worse, making you add more BL, and more, and more, until the whole system chokes. Or adding it to an ancient, who-knows-what charge of antifreeze. Alot of additive stories turn bad when people use something wrong, use too much, or just plain reach for the bottle when they should reach for the wrench.
This is why they call it 'Dreaded Previous Owner'...
Good luck, get it flushed really well.
