Jeremy Clarkson is the king of exaggeration, and he always comes up with unusual and graphic ways of illustrating mudane points of motoring journalism, which is why he's so popular.
The point being made, 250hp is pretty much on the limit for FWD is valid, but the TCS Off tire smoking illustrates it more amuzingly than just saying it so he was driving like a clown with TCS off, not something an unskilled driver would do on the road - they would keep TCS+DSC on. Similarly a skilled driver wouldnt let that happen, eg 'The Stig' when he did the timed lap, I didnt see any clouds of tire smoke then, and he was going full bore with all the safety systems off.
Despite the fact that Jeremy debunked the fighter jet links of saab as so much marketing tosh, and had some comedic fun with the 250hp-FWD aero on a test track, he was pretty fair, highlighting the 4 things that make it such a good car
1. Amazing midrange oomph
2. With good fuel economy
3. And 5 star safety
4. And the warm innner glow that you are one of the few who has discovered such attributes rather than going for the more obvious and expensive choices.
