Onion material, 100%. Thanks for that.
As another of the thankless (but decently compensated) grunts trying to keep the pig flying, I have to admit to having a hot button on Y2K issues.
How often do I have to hear about the Y2K dud. "Nothing happened!", "No end of the World as we know it, no airplanes falling out of the skies, electricity stayed on and millions didn't die". "It was all a sham to get us to buy generators!"
Well, you can thank the successful passage (and possible saving of the Earth from vaporization) to us tech heads who worked LONG hours for weeks leading up to Y2K remediating the sins of our tech forefathers. Fixing all the bugs allowed people like the OP and my father to continue to make uninformed proclamations about the state of the internet.
And by the way, I'll take Usenet over the internet any day, hands down!
