My wife's (girfriend at the time) mother bought one of the first Miatas. I drove it a few time and loved the fact it was a convertible.
Years later, my wife was tired of her Civic and was ready to buy a brand new Miata. She kicked and screamed as I pulled her out of the dealership. But when she got to test drive a 1999 9-3 Convertible, she was like "...what Miata?".
The Miata is a fine car, but was not an all-weather car, as safe or fun to drive (torque!)as the Saab.
