Hello, rewired my house a few years ago and found the job tedious , but not difficult. I had the old knob and tube system which is good since the two wires are physically seperated , but the wires themselves lose insulation and break down. Get a good book and check out the codes. If you can use the plastic coated wires(forgot the name - bx ?) no problem , but if you need have to run it inside of metal conduit it becomes a larger job. I don't believe that aluminum has been used in many years and probably doesn't meet code any longer. You'll probably need a good snake , hand held jig saw ,
spade bits, wire stripper, circuit tester etc and patience
good luck, Keep speaker and phone lines in mind. bj.
