I started out as Civil Engineering major and decide I did not like engineering -- I got an information science and operations science degree. I love the versatility it has given me in my career.
You might want to look into a degree in econometrics which would sound like a good combo. Be careful not to get too narrow in what you study. I am not sure who offers an actuarial degree per say, but just staying a math major or economics/econometrics major could easily land you a job as an actuary. Statistics would be another option.
Most firms that hire these types of number crunchers/quantitative folks often have their own exams and training. I am familiar with these roles as it relates to financial services and credit lending and trading institutions. An example of a company that has a good program for math and econ majors is Capital One. You can also look at application of quantitative work in the Hedge Fund and money management business -- tons of excellent paying jobs out there for people with math and economic backgrounds who love quantitative work.
Good luck.
