A few weeks ago, my 1990 Saab 900 Turbo gave out for reasons unbeknownst to me. It had something to do with the battery...very odd situation. Regardless, the problem is now fixed, even though I have no clue what I did to fix it. Anyway, back to the story. I was on Briley Parkway here in Nashville and the car suddenly died (after a few miles of very low power). I immediately pulled over to the shoulder and couldn't find a problem anywhere under the hood. I don't carry a cell-phone with me (I know, I know...how old-school), so I began my trek along the side of the road. After about a mile of walking, a middle-aged guy in a Dodge Ram stopped and offered a ride. Actually, he offered to go back to my car and see if he couldn't locate/fix the problem. I didn't want to put him through the trouble and waste his time, so I told him he could simply take me to the nearest gas station. Lo and behold, all of the gas stations in the area were closed (an industrial area on a Saturday...no need to be open). He took me back to my car and boosted it off about 4 times. As soon as he would take the booster cables off, the car would die. He looked at a few things under the hood and offered his cell phone. I called my girlfriend to come get me. It was snowing, so he told me to sit in his warm pick-up until somebody got there. I told him it would be about 45 minutes before she could get there, and he said it didn't matter. He had his 3-year-old son with him (quite the looker, for all of you single young ladies out there). He was extremely courteous, kind, and mannerly. I went ahead and sent him on his way, as he had already spent about 45 minutes dealing with me. It was a very positive experience, and I could not have been more lucky or fortunate on that day. Not only did he go above and beyond the call of duty and offer to help, but he also offered quite a bit of nice conversation. May all of you be as fortunate in your travels. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
