Chicago to New Orleans, 930 miles one way (13 hours non-stop), '04 Cadillac DeVille. Flights were too expensive so I took the opportunity to test drive it, I've been thinking about getting one. Well, here's the review.
Exterior: I like the new style, still do. The car is too big, though, for my current tastes, I almost took out a concrete post in the parking lot.
Interior: Very large, almost too large if that's possible, both wide and front to back. Huge trunk. Radio stinks. Interior design is boring, plain, too much green on all the dials, and they mix LCD and LED, for an uneven "style". Also the turn signal indicator is a different shade of green, and the "flash" on the dash doesn't match the arrow in the side view mirror, both annoying. Cheap plastic on many buttons. Has an oil and tranny fluid life monitor "68% left", and you can check the tire pressure from inside, both of which are pretty cool gizmos. Tan leather seats showing some wear/dirt with only 4K miles. Comfortable seats.
Ride: Floats like a boat, esp. if you look around a lot like I do, e.g., reading billboards, looking at cows, all of a sudden you're on the shoulder, not good while I was on the causeway through Lake Ponchatrain, the "shoulder" is a swamp. Very luxurious feel. Mileage on the monitor got up to 24.1 mpg, not bad at all. Very good acceleration from stop to speed, and for passing.
Overall: I'm gonna sit this one out and look for a smaller car with a little more style. How do these little old ladies drive this thing? Not bad for a cross-country trip, with all the room and the smooth feel on the highway and good engine and mileage. I'd rent one again, but not buy.
