Hello, just checking in again, nearing the tail end of our stay. I'm a little less, um, sleepy now than the last time I posted, so perhaps this one will be slightly more informative. :) Though I'm back in the same subterranean coffee shop. We've been happily surprised by the good weather we've had. We were expecting chilly and rainy, but there were three days of warm sun, with only a very light rain sprinkle one afternoon. Today was chilly and windy but dry--we spent the afternoon wandering around Vondelpark, under the influence of some nice chocolate "space cake," which made the walk very relaxed and helped numb the pain later on when I managed to get hit by a passing tram. Just a bump but it knocked the breath out of me and nearly made me fall over. This is why we shouldn't do drugs, kids.
The "scarcity of Saabs" I mentioned in my last post was probably influenced by the fact that I live in the Boston area, otherwise known as Trollhattan-on-the-Charles. I have seen as many Saabs in my entire stay here as I normally see in one day at home. So the sight of every single one makes me happy. I spotted a mid-90s red 9000, and it nearly made me cry. My brother is car-sitting for my car right now, and probably loving every minute of it. I miss my car, sniff.
We made a day trip to Dusseldorf and had a super time. Lovely city with many things to do and an entire neighborhood of cafes and bars, and the Hofgarten is very lovely. Plus you can just walk around the streets drinking, which really tickled us. It was mostly sunny but cold in Dusseldorf.
Tomorrow is our last full day here, so we hope to use our time wisely. In the evening we are taking a wine-and-cheese canal tour as a farewell to this city. We will definitely be back.
All I could think when we first got here was, this is where I hope I end up when I die. So how could I resist when I found a t-shirt that said, "Good girls go to heaven -- Bad girls go to Amsterdam." Uh huh.
See you all later next week!
