I've known how to count cards at Blackjack for over a decade now, but that doesn't mean I'm any kind of expert. I'd say in rule 1, eliminate 7 because you might just assume the dealer has a ten underneath (so many 10's with 10, J, Q, K) for a pat hand of 17 - you want the dealer to have to take cards to bust, so hit against a 7.
2. You hit until you have 17 or better.
3. Hit on 12 vs 2 (also 3 if playing single deck) but stand otherwise and let the dealer bust.
4. No, never hit hit when the dealer has such bad cards showing like 5 or 6. Stay in the game and let the dealer bust. In fact, with a 6 showing, I'd even double down with A-2 through 6 and if playing a single deck, with an 8.
5. Always split Aces and 8's - never split 10's, 5's, or 4's.
Here's a link to what I think is the best Blackjack book out there (aptly titled). It has great strategy and a lot of fun stories too - even if you never were going to play Blackjack, the stories are worth the book alone!
Have fun!
