If you can play in that league, then the M3 is truly an automotive super star to be savored. I don't know if I would go for the SMG, great for the track, but so-so around town. You only live once.
I like what Jason OW-40 says about the 330i with ZHP. An M3 is just too much horsepower. A 330 will be plenty fast enough and you'll be able to use more of it more often. Unless you plan on lots of track outings with the BMW club, the 330 might be a wiser choice. 330's have subvented lease rates along with the other normal 325 and 330's, M3's don't, M3's are standard rates.
BMW's all have free "full maintenance" for 4 years and 50,000 miles. As opposed to Saab, the BMW maintenance includes brakes and wear items other than tires. So when folks complain about the maintenance on M3's I suppose they must be referring to the niggles of a high strung thoroughbred which describes the M to a T.
