I've had the gas Ryobi (purchased at Home Depot) for six or seven seasons. Besides the string trimmer, I also have the attachments for blower, edger and hedge clipper. It has other attachments available (mini tiller, snowblower) that I haven't tried.
It's always started and I've never adjusted the carb or changed the spark plug. I do put stabilizer in the gas at the end of the season. String trimmer and blower work well. Edger works well too but the depth adjustment knob can't be tightened enough with just your hand so I replaced it with a nut and use a wrench to adjust it. The hedge trimmer works well but is extremely awkward. With that attachment on, the whole unit is about 6 feet long. If I trimmed many hedges, I would buy a dedicated trimmer. But for no more than I trim, it's workable.
When you come in the house after using it, you must immediately strip your shirt because of the heavy 2-stroke oil odor. I wear cotton t-shirts and they pick up and hold that odor.
The basic unit with string trimmer was $100. It works well enough that I would buy it again. I seriously question whether it has enough power for the tiller though.
