On Standard vs. Manual Posted by PGAero [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Check out this tutorial on driving standard..., Jesse 89spg, Mon, 17 May 2004 22:47:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a "Standard" and a "Manual" are the same thing. To the extent that you purchased a car with the transmission that came "standard," I can see the issue, since the most commonly sold transmissions are automatics. However, most cars are offered with a manual as the standard, and automatics are the option, even though MOST cars are sold with Autos these days. Granted, there are a lot of cars that are sold, standard, with an automatic.
Type in "Standard Transmission" in dictionary.com, or even google. A standard transmission is still a manual. "Standard" does seem to conjur up thoughts of the "norm" or "regular," which seems to be the automatic these days, but, by the staying power of convention, "Standard Transmission" has found its way into the history books . . . at least the dictionary.
