You think that is more secure? You'd be shocked

at how bad security can be on the servers of major "reputable" companies. Add to that the fact your interfacing between your computer and their system over a public network by relying on buggy software for security and it is no surprise significant confidental data is compromised all the time.
Of couse even if you send your bill in via mail, drop it off in person, or are lucky enough to have the information cleanly swept away from the internet accessible server without incident you have the real possiblity of a messed up back end server. I have seen situations where everyone with an account on a development server had the abilty to read unencrypted credit card information in plain text files on the production server. Since it was as simple as viewing a file zero effort was required. This included 100s of users including offshore developers. As bad as that sounds I have seen worse. Security is the last thing to receive attention and the first thing to be set aside.
