Dealer usually = expensive... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How about Thoroughbred?, Scaniac, Wed, 9 Jun 2004 14:20:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab Shop uses Thoroughbred for certain parts, but I've never personally used them. While the service department has always been very nice to me, the sales staff in general doesn't seem entirely dedicated to Saab. They are in the business to sell all of the Jaguars, Audis, and Porsches. Regardless, I realize that service/repair has nothing to do with the sales department.
I suppose my original point was that dealers are usually quite a bit more expensive than an independent mechanic. I can have a lot more control dealing with an indy, as well. I'm fairly competent as far as DIY repairs are concerned, so an independent will be more flexible in diagnosing the problem, telling me how to fix it, and charging a minimal labor fee for the service. I can also buy parts myself for quite a bit less, take it in, and they will use the part. Dealers aren't always as understanding in that respect.
Based on my experience, dealer service is strictly business...you take the car in, they fix the problem, you pay the bill, and that's it. Indy service is a lot more personal and I find that the result is generally a lot more positive (and cheaper). Anyway, that's my rant for today. Thanks for the feedback. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
