When I was in Germany, France, Italy and countries in between, most "contractors" have small cargo vans for hauling building materials.
For example, in Germany, it is mostly 5 cyl VW, second gen Eurovan body?
Italy has some seriously small 3 wheels pickup; to me, it looks more like a scooter with an open bed, 2 stroke too, truly smokey; in addition to Fiat cargo vans.
French contractors use all kinds of vehicles, but still mostly cargo vans.
Please remember, unleaded gas cost up to 5 dollars or more a gallons in most parts of the old world, so American style pickup truck that serve only one purpose is not welcome. Lots of taxes, in addition to value added tax, excise tax?---bad spelling, there are property tax for owning a car in parts of western europe.
Even in rural parts of France & Italy, most families have only one auto, public transportation, scooters & bicycles are the main methods to satisfied their transportation needs.
I spent about 1 year in Italy, 6 months in Germany, and still go back to France whenever I can.
I have never walk so much until I arrived in Europe.

BTW, Frod in Ireland & England have some vehicles look like the off spring between cargo van & Ranger pick up with a sealed camper shell for contractors & farmers.
Those are just my observations.
