Here's my attempt...> Posted by PGAero [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: OT - Musicians' advice needed..., Clay McNeely ![]() ![]() |
Clay,
I play trumpet and therefor knew a few Euphoniumists back in the highschool days. (One guy is at USC, then the Cleveland Conservatory of Music playing his Euphonium and Trombones wow!)
My experience with ebay is that it is really great if you know what you're looking for. I'd try to get to as many music stores as possible, and learn as much as you can about brands and models. For example, I have a Bach Trumpet (TR300), and my dad has a Benge. My Bach is middle of the road, while my dad's Benge is very nice (All Benges are very nice, but not all Bachs are). As you probably know, a Bach Stradavarious is a VERY nice instrument, but Bach makes some very entry-level stuff too. Educate yourself on the differences, and play as many as you can. You might decide that you just don't want a Yamaha, regardless of what model it is, because you don't like their tone, or "Feel."
I'm sure there are deals to be had out there. YOu might find a decent Euphonium for a few hundred bucks, and you might find a $4000.00 horn for $2500, but you won't likely find a $4000.00 horn for a few hundred bucks.
Most ebay items are represented fairly well...but there are bad items decriptions out there, so be informed. (There was a Saab 9000CS on there a while back that had Aero wheels on it...the item description made it sound like the car was an Aero...when it was in fact, a CS).
Good luck.
