On long distant trips -- I always keep my distance to 1 days drive time. I was buying a Viggen in Florida, flew there and found some paint work. I would have been ok with it and would have had it fixed because otherwise the car was OK, but they wouldn't drop the price as I had already left them no profit. I must have really left them no profit since I walked and they didn't do anything about it even drove me back to the airport. I was pissed they misrepresented this, but thats a risk I knew I took. When I got the airport all flights were booked or $1K plus -- walked over to the rental counter and drove a car one way (National has no one way charge) for $50 + gas. Sucked, but it was OK. A week later I flew another 1000 miles to buy the perfect Viggen. My wife wasn't happy about all this, but I got the Viggen I wanted for the price I wanted.
There are no guarantees. There are risks, but with risk can come rewards. Just be strong enough to walk away.
