Bumper Repair - Patches or Plastic Welding? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have a '94 9000CS with a crack in the bumper, mostly along the junction between the body-colored part and the black rub strip, and a small vertical crack underneath that would be barely noticable if it could be held together properly. Body shops have quoted me from $500 to $900+ to fix this "properly", not really worth it to me, better things to spend it on.
Is there some sort of material that will stick on the inner side of the plastic (polyurethane or polypropelene?) that would act like a band-aid, perhaps similar to the fiberglass or metal mesh kits I have seen for patching drywall? I understand that sticking to the slipery plastic is an issue, but there are adhesives that will work, i.e. 3M makes a few.
In lieu of a patch, has anyone tried "plasic welding" kits with good results?
