These require low-sulfur fuel? Many modern diesel engines do, and it won't be widely available in the States until late 2006.
Also, at present several diesel models aren't sold in certain states states, including California, due to the emission standards. That would make it tough for Saab to roll them out here.
I'd guess that new-generation diesel cars have a good shot at the US market as they master the emission technology, the right fuel becomes available and people become more aware of their mileage capabilities
(probably as good as hybrids in a lot of cases). There are a lot of bad memories of diesel cars of the 60s, 70s and 80s to overcome.
One most be patient.
