I beleive that HP and bHP are essentially the same. With the "brake" simply referring to the test method (probably antiquated).
The differrence between Gross and Net horsepower is where the engine is on a stand w/ no accessories (gross) and where the engine has the exhaust/alternator/accessories hooked up (net). I beleive (maybe wrong) that DIN = gross and SAE = net. Net is obviously a more application accurate description of power.
I think that in the sixties, the big three often used gross HP figures for their musclecar V8's. The switch to SAE power ratings came late sixties/early seventies.
