Plastic Fuel Tanks are harder to repair than metal Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 6 Jul 2004 14:35:24 In Reply to: Re: cracked fuel tank, zeke, Tue, 6 Jul 2004 11:27:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The repair kits that stick to metal WILL NOT stick to most types of platic used on fuel tanks. You need to know exactly what type of plastic is used on your car, there may be a symbol somewhere (and hopefully not on top!). If it's ABS, you have a good shot at finding something; Permatex makes two applicable products:
09100 - Plastic Tank Repair (works for ABS plastic, according to their customer service)
09101 - Fuel Tank Repair (I believe that this is for metal)
If the tank is polyurethane or polypropelyne however, you will have to keep searching. I am looking for a glue to repair the polyurethane bumpers ("PUR" symbol) on my 9000, neither of these will do the trick. If you come across something, please let me know!
