Aero what? 9-5? NG9-3? ???
91 is marginal for my 03 9-5 Aero, runs better on 92 which only Amoco sells in Kansas. Sometimes there can be hesitation getting on boost with 92 octane and spiking to 93 with toluene fixes that indicating that it is an octane related problem. Since I started using ES7 plugs and clipped or hacked them to reduce ignition nugget quenching, I do not seem to have a problem with 92 octane fuel.
If you get on throttle (T7) and feel an increase of power as you start backing off the throttle a bit, that suggests an octane deficiency. Ditto with some hesitation to get on boost.
You can get an increase in octane need or demand in your engine from combustion chamber deposits and fouled injectors. Techron Conentrate will help clear of some of that.
More octane that required to avoid knocking type issues is a waste of money. You have to eval by seat of the pant feel and watch the boost guage too.
