An owner's manual is always a necessity, especially if this is your first bike. Motorcycles are like cars, if the manufacturer calls for XX octane, that's all you need. Anything more (for stock engine), you're wasting your money and reducing your mgp's.
I hope that you've taken a MSF rider's class.
Get good riding gear. Do this before spending any money on the bike.
You've made a good choice for a bike. Small enough for beginner (and no expensive plastic for those inevitable drops), yet enough bike for experienced riders to have fun on the twisties (or track, with some suspension upgrades).
good luck

Get good riding gear, and wear it every time.
