Facts taken from Yann Martel's "Life of Pi", an excellent book I'm in the midst of and will review soon:
Calm, quiet, and introspective, sleeps 20 hours a day, busiest at sunset (with "busy" used in only the most relaxed sense), when motivated, moves 440 times slower than a motivated cheetah, not well-informed about the outside world...if come upon in the wild, two to three nudges should suffice to awaken it, it will then look sleepily in every direction but yours. It is not so much deaf, as uninterested in sound. It survives by being so slow, sleepiness and "slothfullness" keep it out of harms way, away from the notice of jaguars, anacondas, etc...wise beings with intense, imaginative lives.
