I've tried 7 different units so far, and for sound quality...nothing beats Apple's AirPort Express. I have that connected directly to an amp, no preamp or receiver...and I use iTunes to control it. It sounds as clean as clean can be. No bells and whistles, music only.

The other units, Netgear, OmniFi, Linksys, Dlink...etc, all have more features which seems that have been focused more over audio quality. The only unit I've found that is the best of both worlds is made by Roku.

http://www.rokulabs.com/products/hd1000/index.php to be exact. They also have a smaller more less featured unit http://www.rokulabs.com/products/soundbridge/index.php

I finally got sick of having a ton of CD's to shuffle through so this is the route I'm going. I ripped everything I have at 224kbps, J-Stereo, through LAME mp3 codec. Side by side with a cd, I can't tell a difference. I'm up to about 900+ albums right now, with a good 500-600 to go.

Now go get yourself an Ximeta http://www.ximeta.com netdisk. It's an external hard drive with both USB 2 and Ethernet connections. All computers can share this drive so with iTunes, you can use whatever computer you want. Just point iTunes to your music directory and it will index them all.

BTW...a friend and I are starting a business revolving around the new age of wireless digital media, and have an obligation to test everything out there and like I said, as far as audio quality, the Apple airport is by far the best. Has a digital output on it also if you'd rather go to a preamp that can handle that. Buy a few different ones and test them out...return what you don't like.
