Before it was upgraded, the Alaska highway was a nightmare. I drove it then in my '86 900 to Ohio & back. Turned over 100k & 110k miles on the trip. With the newer road, I would heartily recomend you drive the Saab. Gas, particularly in Canada is very expensive & you'll enjoy being able to get around the motorhomes easier in the Saab. Carry that spare DI cassette & crank sensor.
Ferrying part of the way is a good idea, especially if time is short. We took 5 weeks to drive to Ohio & back, spending only about 10 days not driving. It was still 14-16 hours each day of driving when we had to make mileage. I'm certain with the new road it's not quite that bad.
If you go,I would also recommend the Cassiar one way & the Alaska Highway version the other way.
If you need more info, reply. I'm filled with opinions especially in election years. d;-)
