The solenoid isn't much more than a lump of metal and some wire. Not much to recondition there. The part that is critical is that the solenoid is actually a big relay. When it engages, it makes the very high current connection that provides battery power to the starter. So it's that set of contacts that would need reconditioning. Since they handle high current, they will carbon up and pit over time and use. I would imagine that recondition consists of replacing the contacts with new, freshly-plated contacts.
