basically Montreal is known for many things but the important things are:
1. French culture (or a N. American version thereof) see the "Old Montreal"
its on the east side on the water.
2. Jewish culture (nence the smoked meat, and many many sinagouges, holacuast museum, etc) see From St. Urbain to St. Laurent
3. Modern night life ( whatever your pleasure) everywhere
I have no idea how old you are, what your background is, etc (unless you said in original post, which I read a while ago and too lazy to re-read) but the main thing is to have as much Montreal of what city has to offer without reverting to mcdonald, etc.
I like crepes in for breakfast, smoked meat for lunch and french food for dinner.
Last words: Check out the clubs/bars on St. Dennis and St. Laurent and stay the F*** away from West St Catherine at night.
If you're 20-30 go to the "Plateau" you'll have fun.
