BASE jumping has come a long way in the last 20 years Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Got BASE?, Jeff W., Sun, 28 Nov 2004 20:45:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Even though I have 1100 skydives it gives me the chills when I watch a movie like this.
When I started skydiving in 82 it was only the outlaws doing BASE and if the parachute association found out, you lost your skydive license instantly.
Now, BASE has grown into a big legal business with special gear and it's own association in different countries.
Many places around the world is opening up for jumping in a legal way but you still have the outlaws though pushing the limit, creating some problems.
Don't beleive for a second though that it is completly safe to do.
Many of my friends are gone. The Swedish national instructor that I studied under getting my instructor rating died on the Trollwall in Norway.
Another guy that went through the instructor class the same time as me died on the Trollwall.
One of the most famous freefall photographers, Carl Boenish, died on the Trollwall in 84 the same week as we had a big skydive get together at the airport in Arvika. It put a big damper on the festivities I remember.
As for me. If I ever for some unknown reason end up standing high up on a Building, Antenna, Span (bridge) or Earth (mountain) I sure hope I have my rig with me.
