Leather quality... Posted by turrbo [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: From someone who has sold shoes for 5 years...., PR, Sun, 5 Dec 2004 04:13:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The quality of Clarks leather has always been great. On the Denali (both black and brown, the leather is quite soft and supple for a Gore-Tex boot. In fact, I've sold non Gore-Tex boots that are stiffer. There is also some nubuck splashed in around the vamp area and around the sides. But as I said, its the Gore-tex membrane that matters, because they are completely 1000000% waterproof. That said, the softness of the leather is great, and I've gotten several comments on that aspect of the boot when selling them.
I can't remember if they are produced in England, as not all of the line is, but the place of production does not matter. Clarks is one of the only companies (including Ecco) that maintains control of their production facilites. I've seen footage of the various production facilites, and can assure you that they are certailny not sweatshops (a concern of many of my customers), and are all clean, and nice and modern.
Many have mentioned Sorel (Kamik). They are top notch for a snow boot, and mine are incredible for shoveling, tubing, etc. But they definitley don't fit your need, and are certainly not for wearing with pants around the office. They are a snow boot, not a casual boot. But they are great for other things.
By the way, thats why I picked the Denali for my freebie. I don't really like that moc toe type thing of the Arcadia. The retail price should not be more than $160, so make sure you're not getting taken.
