Noel's right -- it's absolutely the invincibility factor. A friend and I drove from NY to South Carolina last winter and, as luck would have it, we drove into a bad snow and ice storm along the way. We were in my friend's leased Buick Regal. Don't know the specifics on the tires, but knowing him and knowing the lease term was up a few weeks after our trip I doubt the tires were anything special. We plodded along through blizzards and ice storms at an extremely slow speed and countless SUV's whizzed by on our left. We made it to SC in one piece and along the way the ditches on the sides of the road were littered with SUV headlights peering out of the snow banks. Yes, "stuff happens" no matter what you're driving and what tires you have, but how you drive is the more important factor.
