Dear SaabNet members,

Upon my return from vacation this Christmas holiday I was surprised by a damp/mildew smell as soon as I entered my 1-bedroom apartment. I immediately noticed big paint bubbles on the wall of the living room and minutes later noticed the entire roof in the living room was stained with a gold-like color. Immediately, I called the landlord to take care of the matter before my wife and 1-year old daughter arrival which was in another week (they had elected to spend more time with my in-laws and the grand-parents wanted so). Whoever, the landlord said that the roof is OK but they could take care of the wall and repaint it. All in all, nothing was done and as I was told the contractor was too busy and 1 week notice was too little.

Late last night, the unexpected happened. Water started dripping from the roof in two spots in a slow motion equal to about a drop a minute. I phoned my landlord this morning and has yet to hear back anything. Now that my family is back, I can only dread the length of time and disturbance this is going to cause my family. There could be mold in there since it's been going on for 2+weeks and painting a 1 bedroom during bitter cold winters makes me shiver. I know I wouldn't keep them in that apartment starting tonight and while this is happening (hotels?).
What kind of advice can you guys offer. Remember if I was the only occupant of the apartment I couldn't care less but I have a child and I am all too concerned about her.
