a brand new HP-21 at $99.95 (full retail) during my second semester in my Freshman year in college. I was using a slide rule to do rectangular to polar conversion in a class and everyone in the class was using a calculator. Guess who took the longest time to do the conversion during tests. At the time, the least expensive HP that could do polar to rectangular conversion was the HP-21.
I still have HP-21 but a segment in the display went out and the rechargable battery need replacement more than a few times.
I had a HP-41CV with all kinds of plug-in modules. The HP-41CV died earlier than the HP-21. The HP-41CV was good but not as well made as the earlier models.
I recently bought a HP-48 from someone in town for $55. I consider that a great deal but it's a bear to learn the keys and various functions. I bought it for sentimental value 8-).
I would buy a HP-45 55 65 or any of the earlier calculators in good conditions in a heart beat.
