Here in southern Wisconsin, some drivers slow down somewhat for school zones, very few drivers actually pull over for an emergency vehicle, and vulnerable traffic (foot traffic and bicycles) are given very little quarter. And I never see drivers anticipate the needs of oncoming traffic. For example, if you are headed north, and there is a southbound bicycle on the shoulder, southbound traffic will need to swing wide, so northbound traffic should move over. This never happens.
I think that there is a lack of respect for others and a general lack of intelligence displayed by drivers. As for the lack of respect, you see it with all interactions now. When's the last time you heard someone say "please" when ordering food?
