One of the very best do-able ways to remove smoke odors is to use a portable ozone generator to oxidize the smoke particles.
The problem is that because ozone is a crazy-good oxidizer it will eventually oxidize everything, materials, metals, etc.
If you've ever been close to a lightning strike, that's the smell, very clean smell, not perfumey at all. It will oxidize your lungs too, but a small amount is deseriable to have around--and it dissipates and reacts very quickly, so after the source is gone there's no real threat in a few minutes.
If they didn't ozone your car, and you still have problems, that could be something that you might consider trying. Hotels often use a small ozone generator to remediate smoking rooms back to non-smoking rooms, and drycleaners sometimes use ozone to remediate clothing, drapes, etc. after something like a house fire.
