It interesting that you want to dictate the places and needs of folks who buy SUV's. You may not like them but lots of folks live where they come in real handy.
My 9-5 Aero only gets 18-19ish mpg when I play hard, 22-23 in mostly freeway driving. That's not too far off what a 9-7X gets.
I don't agree with your definition that SUV don't do any of those things well. A 9-7X will have great power, even a V8 if you want it. A 9-7X will have active head restraints, the key on the floor and belong to a heavier class of vehicles that have lower overall injury and death rates. A 9-7X will have Saab inspired handling with full time AWD and special suspenion, wheels and tires to handle like a Saab. A 9-7X will have good storage, that one's obvious except to you. And the modern crop of GM SUV's aren't all that bad on gas, especially if you need the room and power.
Don't let your personal tastes and biases interfere in the process that allows you to continue to vote Trollhattan with your dollars. If we all thought like you there wouldn't be a Saab at all.
Next potential Saab buyer who sees you in your Saab, but who needs an SUV, is in your hands, whadda'ya gonna' do?
