Your post brings back fond memories of when I grew up. My dad had a 1951 Pontiac straight 8, which I learned to drive on. Believe it or not, I modified the straight 8...milled head, free flow exhaust, modified carburetor, advanced ignition, etc. The point being it would dust the flat head Ford V-8's of the time (which my friends had)....Next Pontiac was a 1957 Catalina which remained stock except for the 3.23 rear that was added. It was pretty quick......but then came the 1960 Pontiac Bonneville.....Tri-Power, Posi rear, and some engine mods. Ran it in the 1/8 mile....yes, 4300 pounds of car running the 1/8 mile.....it turned 76mph at 9.7 seconds! Still have many trophies from racing that Bonneville! It would easily do 0-100 in under 20 seconds.....and got 21 mpg on the road, if you stayed off the load pedal. What a great car that was. Then came the 1964 Lemans......what a piece of junk that was....should have gotten a GTO! The Lemans got hit head on and almost totaled. We walked away from the accident, but that was the last Pontiac. Oh well, time marches on. Have had Saabs for the last 20 years......but you brought back fond memories for me.
