the gateway IP address ? This IP address should be your wireless router. Then run the command "ping" to ping this IP address from your command window, e.g. "ping 192.168.1.1". See if you can ping your wireless router. If not, then you are not seeing the wireless router.
Yes, unable to get to the outside is a common problem when you try to put up security measures 8-(.
Take MAC address filtering off first, then see if you can get it working. My suspicion is that you may not be using the correct or a missing MAC address for your laptop and/or the network card. You have two devices in your laptop that you may need the MAC addresses, your wireless card and the ethernet network card. When you do an ipconfig command, I believe it gives you the network card MAC address and not the wireless card MAC address (I could be wrong as I don't use wireless cards in my home network). However, I think the wireless router software should probably give you the MAC address for your wireless card when you run the router config software from your browser. How are you configuring the router ? I believe most routers need to be connected directly via hardwire (i.e. ethernet cable) in ordered to be configured.
If you have a software firewall in your laptop, take it off momentarily and test. Make sure you restore the firewall afterward. You also need to let the software firewall know that you need access to and from your wireless router.
Yes, I know, it's a big hassle sometimes, but now that you are almost an expert, it doesn't take long to turn things on or off 8-).
You may consider backing everything out and make sure you have access then start adding security measures one at a time and then test access after each thing that you have changed.
