Help with my new TV - I'm electronically challenged.. Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Fri, 25 Feb 2005 05:21:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The last time I bought a TV it had a plug to stick into the wall outlet and a socket for the antenna. So you can imagine the fun I had setting up my new Sony 30 inch widescreen that I purchased last night. I managed to watch CSI last night so I guess I did something right, but I have a couple of questions.
First, it is "HD ready". I believe this means I have to buy an external tuner to receive HD signals over the air (I don't have cable). I don't watch much broadcast TV (it will be mostly for DVD's) but the HD picture in the store was pretty cool. Any recommendations for a tuner? What do I need to consider? Should I hold off and wait for prices to plummet?
Second, right now I have it hooked up to an internal antenna (I will likely put up a proper antenna in my roofspace soon). My normal local channels are 11, 13, 24, 30 and 36. When I went through the automatic channel set up, 11 and 13 came in great but there was nothing on 24, 30 or 36. Instead I got these stations at frequencies way up the dial - like 81 and 97. What's going on??
I used to be good at this technical stuff, but I guess when I hit 30 all those brain cells must have died off...
Thanks
Rod
