I had a blast watching recent DVD version of that old 70s classic TWO LANE BLACKTOP the other day. Dennis Wilson, James Taylor, Warren Oates driving a '55 Chev gasser/454 and a "new" GTO 455 coast to coast. You remember. I'd forgotten how very cool that movie was. Talk about your existentialism of the 1970s! Not much dialog, but super scenery and great car sounds! Very authentic and correct - no special effects.
Anybody seen this classic recently? Comments?
Things I never knew: "The Girl" was Laurie Bird at 17, who had a bit part in ANNIE HALL, and committed suicide in Art Garfunkel's apartment in '79. Apparently Art was devastated for years over this. Who knew?
Also, the mean and no frills '55 Chev twodoor featured a Muncie M-22 "Rock Crusher" gearbox. Saabs once boasted a "rock crusher" box, but you gotta hear this meaty Muncie whine - too cool! A film history site claimed that same '55 also "played" Harrison Ford's ride in AMERICAN GRAFITI.
