GM reminds me of where Apple Computer was a few years ago. No debt, lots of cash, consistently profitable (although not as profitable as it could have been). I remember Apple trading in the teens when it had $13/share cash on hand.
It's the same problem - the market looked at Apple's low market share and just assumed it was a dying company (and made the false assumption that Apple's business model required substantial increases in market share).
If GM ever starts increasing market share, expect the market to go from excessively pessimistic, to excessively optimistic (as it has done with Apple, which now verges on absurdly overpriced).
OTOH, from the standpoint of innovation and product quality, Apple had/has a much better track record than GM.
