Mine does, but I'm the boss

I actually prefer taking a rental car on trips not long enough to fly. First I tend to be kind of anal about my cars and worry about where I park them, vandalism etc. With a rental I don't worry a bit and park'em anywhere. Secondly I'd just as soon put the miles on someone elses car (I recently sold an '84 900 Turbo with 94,000 miles). Yesterday I took a trip to Chicago (about 350 miles round trip) At about .45 a mile, which is what it costs to run something like a Taurus, that's $157.50. I rented a car for $54. with unlimited miles. Because I rent for trips I don't feel compeled to own a late model car. Right now I own a '90 900S and a '93 Turbo convertible in perfect condition and have no car payments. I could afford a new Saab if I wanted to but choose to spend my money in other ways. Cars are a huge money pit for most middle class people but they don't have to be. Alright, maybe I am a little eccentric too, but funky old Saabs do have sufficient cache for my purposes. And there's a side benefit--nobody ever mistakes me a Republican.
