older and more responsible.... Well, guess again, instead of things get kicked around and missing, I now get finger nail polish on the keyboard, mouse, cotton balls soaked with nail polish remover that nicely removes key markings and silver coating on mouse....need I go on ? Oh, I now worry about who they are chatting with .... time to dig up some key logging software.......any suggestions ?
Yes, set them up as users and not admin, let them login as users would definitely help in terms of preventing files disappearing or settings get changed.
Put in a firewall (Zone Alarm), real-time spyware scan (Sunbelt, or just download Microsoft's beta version, but Sunbelt is pretty good), of course you need your usual real-time antivirus scan.
I also suggest you look at some parental control software (such as Net Nanny, Surf Patrol, Netopia) and limit their online time and restrict gaming sites to some known ones. Some ISP providers would bundle control software with their services, if so, try it and see how it works for you.
Tell your girls that if they don't treat the equipment with proper care, you will bar them from the computer *AND* internet. Don't just give empty threats, you need straight enforcement.
Give us an update in a few weeks, I sure can use more ideas 8-).
