Good choice. I too just bought the D70 recently (last week) and love it so far. I have a N80 which is very similar to the D70, but film-based SLR and appreciate the larger profile of the N70. I think it just fits better in my hand. As for portability, I also have a Nikon Coolpix 5400. I am happy with the picture quality and features, but the delay between pressing the button and the camera actually capturing the picture was too slow for any action shoots. Even trying to snap candid portraits of my 2 year old baby proves to be difficult with the Coolpix. No so with the D70. I have a 512MB Crucial CF, but I plan to get a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II card shortly, based on the positive reviews.
I purchased the N70 bundled with the 18-70mm Nikon lens. The autofocus is quiet and locks-on fast. I'm like it so far but would have preferred a 2.8 fixed aperture.
