Stick shift 240's are not easy to find. Whereas there are plenty 5 speed c900's. Having own both in a few model years, I like the pick up of a c900 but the 240 is easier to work with. Each has its deficient areas. The c900 has the drooping head liner and tempermental heater control valve. The 240 has the old style stick fuses and flimsy plastic center console. If you buy the 240 wagon, you'll be faced with frayed wiring to the lift gate. The symptoms are non-working wiper or brake lights. The 240 b234 engine uses a timing belt. Have to change it every 60k miles. If you neglect it, it likely will strand you on the road, But there won't be engine damage. It is a non-interference engine. The c900 engine has a timing chain.
If you insist on 5 speed, I think the likelihood of getting a c900 is far greater. I prefer the C900. It is almost as spacious as a 240 wagon.
The 240 auotmatic transmission is very robust if fluid is changed at regular intervals. Can't say the same for the C900 automatic transmission but I never own one C900 auto.
